Baldur’s Gate 3 features a ton of side quests for you to tackle, and some of them require a bit of ingenuity to solve. If you’re struggling with the quest to open The Pantry Chest and help the Local Rat in Baldur’s Gate 3, then we’ve got you covered.

RPG fans are hopping into Baldur’s Gate 3 following the end of its early access period, and the game is filled with a ton of fun content to check out, including characters and creatures in need of help. They’ll give you mini side quests that help you level up fast and complete the main campaign.

The Local Rat side quest is a short mission that will require a certain level of creativity, but it’s quite simple to solve if characters get their timing right. Here’s everything you need to know on how to help the Local Rat and open The Pantry Chest.

You’ll be able to interact with the Local Rat in Baldur’s Gate 3 by using the Speak With Animals spell, non-verbal cues, or a Potion of Animal Speaking. You can find this rat in The Druid Grove, and it’s easy to identify because of its damaged tooth.

This Local Rat will as tell you that it chipped its tooth on “the evil thing” that’s inside a box. Then, it will guide you through a locked Storage room. Here you’ll find a Tiefling called Pandirna that’s sitting on the ground and blocks the party from opening The Pantry Chest that the rat needs help with.

When you get into the Storage room, you’ll meet a Tiefling called Pandirna sitting in front of a crate. After communicating with the rat, you’ll discover that “the evil thing” is in the crate right behind her.

If you talk to Pandirna, she’ll tell you that she drank a potion that has weakened her legs and she can’t move. You’ll be able to heal her using any healing spell to get her to stand up and move away. But be aware that at this point, the Tiefling will be able to alert guards of any suspicious movements you make to help the Local Rat. Don’t worry, there’s a way you can get through her.

When Pandirna is facing away from you arranging her belongings, you can try to open quickly The Pantry Chest. You can also use a blind spot that’s in the room’s corner, and discreetly open the chest while in Stealth mode.
